We’re excited to announce the release of BrainVision Recorder 2, a new version of BrainVision Recorder which redefines the EEG recording experience with Brain Products’s solutions. Building on the trusted foundation of Recorder 1, this new version introduces a modern design, streamlined workflows, and enhanced flexibility – all while improving ease of use.
BrainVision Recorder 2 for actiCHamp (Plus) includes multiple key features from PyCorder (either the stock PyCorder or variants coded by individual labs) that were absent in Recorder 1, including:
- Optional reference-free recording
- Individual channel color selection and scaling
- Easy drop-down menu selection for peripheral physio sensor set up
- Fully numeric (not just alphanumeric) trigger naming flexibility
There are other improvements from the development team at Brain Products based on years of use and feedback in Recorder 1:
- Modern BIDS-compliant format – New data format (already supported by new file readers in the latest BVA2, EEGLAB, and MNEpython!)
- Multiple impedance checks saving – Check impedance of your electrodes at multiple times during an experiment
- Separate server and GUI computer processes – Salvage data even in the rare circumstance of a program crash!
- Built-in LSL output streams – Ready for BCI without running a separate program
If you are still using PyCorder (which is no longer officially supported since multiple years), or are an actiCHamp Classic or actiCHamp Plus user still on Recorder 1, then we encourage you to consider taking advantage of the special release pricing (good thru June 30th, 2026) so you can continue using your amplifiers with a software that will continue to get updates and run on modern Windows OS.

- Yes, BrainVision Recorder 1 licenses will not stop working and that is still the recording software we support for using the BrainAmp, LiveAmp, and actiCHamp (Plus) with TurboLink and video.
- Brain Products is still maintaining BrainVision Recorder 1 and will post patches to keep it working with Windows 11 and fix issues that may arise, however it won’t likely get new features going forward. Longer term, the other amplifiers will be added to BrainVision Recorder 2, but we don’t yet have specific timelines for that switch. Whenever that does happen, a clearer timeline about BrainVision Recorder 1 support going forward will be announced but your existing software license will continue to work regardless.
